Step Up Young Luminaries Program

The Young Luminaries Internship Program is a unique career development program designed to propel the professional aspirations of Step Up's most ambitious students by carefully placing them in challenging and exciting internships. The program gives the students practical, professional resume-building skills while further developing their sense of responsibility, self-confidence, leadership and initiative.

Although each internship opportunity is unique, all participants have the opportunity to learn about an organization and how it functions, assume task completion responsibility, meet and observe high-profile professionals, and learn about professional conduct and culture in an intimate, supportive setting. In turn, students provide their organization with valuable work.

Young Luminaries internships are paid because it is a necessity; students would otherwise have to search for paid summer jobs to support their families that do not build workplace skills.
The cost of hosting an intern is minimal in comparison to the impact. The minimum commitment is 20 hours per week for 6-8 weeks at state minimum wage, which means a company can participate for a contribution of only $800-1000.
