Help Step Up high school students achieve their dreams of being the first in their families to go to college!

We are looking for volunteers to support our College Prep 101 class, teaching high school seniors all things college entry related, including applications (essays, short answers, resumes), financial aid, testing options and college selection process.

Volunteer Expectations:
• A desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young women by being a group leader and an encouraging role model for each workshop you attend.
• A fun, flexible and energetic attitude.
• Openly share your college experiences
• Bringing the girls healthy snacks and water would be a HUGE bonus!

Location:
Classes are held at Gertz Ressler High School, located at 2023 South Union Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90007 on west side of the street. If you have trouble finding the room, look for anyone in an orange tee shirt or call Jamie Kogan at 310.497.3514.

Parking:
Street parking on Union Avenue and the surrounding streets is available.

When:
We would like to have volunteers arrive at 3:15pm to assist in class preparation and for a quick brief of the upcoming class. Classes will run from 3:30pm-5:00pm every Tuesday. If you are available to stay after class to help put supplies away, we can use your help then too!

Dress:
We will provide stylish Step Up orange tees for all volunteers to wear. If you already have a Step Up tee, please wear it.

Volunteer Roles:
 • During the opening class, we would like volunteers to introduce themselves and their profession.
• Girls are broken up into groups to work on project based activities. Volunteers are asked to participate in each class by floating from group to group and providing positive encouragement.
• During the breaks we encourage you to mingle with the young women, ask them questions and begin building a rapport with them.(Warning: they are teenagers so if they are more interested in talking with their friends, do not take it personally!)
• Bringing fresh fruit and/or water for the girls is always a help.
