How did you first learn about this type of work?
Maybe via a parent, neighbor or mentor?
Step Up’s Pathways to Professions program introduces Step Up teens to a variety of industries and work environments – careers that they may not have learned of otherwise.
Believing “you can’t be what you can’t see,” Step Up brings teens from under-resourced communities from the classroom to the board room, giving them a true “day in the life” look at the lives of professional women at the office.
Thanks to support from AT&T, as part of the company’s AT&T Aspire initiative, Step Up will offer its 2015-16 Pathways to Professions program for 11th-grade students in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. The program will bring girls on monthly field trips to a variety of companies, including AT&T, beginning this month. During the visits, girls will learn about the industry, see the company’s different jobs and roles in action, and take part in a special activity illustrating the type of challenges company employees tackle each day (packaging a new Neutrogena sunscreen and designing the cover of a Marie Claire issue are just a few examples!).
The collaboration between Step Up and AT&T is focused on young women: preparing them for their futures by building confidence, inspiring them to realize their potential, and showing them the endless opportunities that exist for them as professional women.
AT&T Aspire drives innovation in education – through technology, social innovation and relationships – to ensure all students have the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. AT&T’s support of Step Up includes both a financial investment in Step Up, and the commitment of AT&T employees, who will serve as mentors to Step Up teens during the Pathways to Professions programs.
Step Up thanks AT&T for its support as we help students reach their full potential together!
