ON INTERNING
SU: Why did you want to intern at Step Up?
KI: Step Up immediately caught my attention. When I first met Alissa at a sorority networking and mentorship event and she shared all of the amazing things Step Up is able to do for women across the country; I knew that it was something I wanted to be a part of. The mission behind Step Up is such a special one. I am a strong supporter of the importance of strong women encouraging other women and I can’t believe I found an organization that helps this happen everyday!
SU: How would you describe your Step Up internship in 3 words?
KI: Inspiring, educational, and relevant.
SU: What advice would you give to the next intern?
KI: Ask questions! I believe it shows that you care about the work you do, no matter what it is.
ON LIFE
SU: Who’s your role model?
KI:I feel like I am extremely lucky because I have an amazing mother who is the greatest role model a daughter could ask for. She has made sure that I have every opportunity possible and is always there to cheer me on.
SU: What is your favorite inspiring quote?
KI:“Girls compete with each other; Women empower one another.” I feel like this message is such an important one today, especially given how the media and society too often pit women against one another when that doesn’t have to be the case.
SU: What book are you reading right now?
KI: Yes, Please by Amy Poehler. This year, my New Year’s resolution was to only read autobiographies written by strong women. This is by far my most successful resolution and far more beneficial than any other resolution I have attempted in the past. I highly recommend the book, she is hilarious and such a powerhouse woman!
ON NEXT STEPS
SU: How do you overcome insecurity or fears when taking a risk?
KI: I usually call my mom and she reminds me what I am capable of.
SU: What do you hope to achieve in your career?
KI:I want a career that makes myself and others happy. Whether it’s a non-profit or a sports team, I want it to be something that I am passionate about and brings people joy.
SU: What motivates you?
KI:The women in my life motivate me! I love seeing how my friends are working hard and excelling in their careers. I truly am friends with amazing women and I can’t wait to see where we all are in 10 years.
