What inspired you to become a Step Up member?
I was inspired to become a Step Up member because I remember being a young girl and how much I admired certain women in my life. They had incredible impacts on me; even the ones who didn't know it, and it made me recognize the importance of being a female mentor. There is so much light in these girls and the inspiration goes both ways. I feel so strongly about being a human being and a female that supports our next generation so they have the tools and inspiration to be all that they were destined to be. That's why I joined Step Up.
How has being a mentor changed you?
Being a part of this community has made me see and realize that my message and my impact are important. Every time I attend an event or have a connection with one of the girls, it leaves a mark of joy on my heart. The feeling of inspiration is palpable when you're in a room with these incredible girls. And for me, it's so important because I grew up in a small town where people showed up for each other and supported one another. Now, living in LA, I feel like I get that sense of community in my Step Up family.
Mentors and mentees learn from each other. What is one thing you learned while being a mentor at Step Up?
One thing I learned while working with the Step Up teens is that even though we have a large age gap and life experience between us, we both still have fears. When I see them and talk to them about being confident and trusting themselves and their abilities, they say the same thing back to me if I share with them some of my fears about certain work projects, etc. It's amazing how much I have learned to build confidence in myself through the exchanges with these girls.
