After redefining her career goals, Raven transitioned from healthcare to user-experience (UX) design to promote equity-focused and inclusive design methods in the development of emerging technologies. She was accepted into Google’s Tech Equity Collective as a Rising UX Innovator where she developed an understanding of designing for marginalized communities. She went on to become a UX Designer at Sparc Career Networking increasing visibility and career opportunities for recent graduates entering the job market.

Raven spends her free-time volunteering with a NYC art collective and empowering children from underserved communities to develop digital design skills at an early age. She teaches lessons on utilizing design tools such Adobe XD, Figma, and Canva.

What has your mentor taught you?

My mentor has taught me that the most valuable professional asset is my opinion. As a UX professional, it is important that I not only present thoughtful and evidence-based ideas but that I learn how to stand beside them and defend them when needed. Once I developed confidence in my thoughts and ideas a world of opportunities opened up for me.

What do you enjoy most about working at Step Up?

I enjoy working with people who genuinely care for others. I've never had more understanding and empathetic coworkers than my colleagues at Step Up. Everyone comes to the table with a variety of traits and skillsets but we all have compassion in common.
