Step Up Teen Proud of her Hispanic Heritage
My name is Jessica and my parents are from Mexico. My mother is from Oaxaca and my biological father is from Jalisco, while my stepfather is from Puebla. Regardless, there will always be some Mexican in me.

Continue reading because I am proud of my heritage and I want to share it with you during Hispanic Heritage Month!

To me, my Hispanic heritage means that I will be different from other people. The way I view things, the food I eat, the way I act, dress and think. All these things are in some way influenced by my Hispanic heritage. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes it can be difficult. It can be difficult because people will at times judge me by my ethnicity.

Even through the hardships, I am proud of my Hispanic heritage. I am proud to be different and have a uniqueness that others may not have. My Hispanic heritage pushes me to be a better person. It pushes me to aim high and show the world that my people are full of wonders and potential. That we are not useless nor worthless than that another ethnicity. We are who we are. I am who I am and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Sincerely,

Jessica, Step Up class of 2019, Los Angeles
