Teen of the Month: New York's Lauren

Lauren recently graduated from The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem and is off to Bates College in the fall! She has kept busy this summer with an internship at the accounting firm KPMG. She advises students to take advantage of internship opportunities, even if it is not in the field they plan on entering. Although Lauren intends on majoring in Biology and following a Pre-Veterinary track, she is fine-tuning skills that are applicable to any career and will also make her a more marketable job candidate. She encourages Step Up supporters to host interns because it will let more teens explore their career options and find their passion. The support Lauren feels from face-to-face mentoring has given her confidence, and now she sees her flaws as opportunities for improvement rather than setbacks. We see Lauren doing great things at college and hopefully hosting her own Step Up intern one day!
