Zoe Herbermann is a Next Step Up associate at Step Up through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. She will work on programming for women and gender- expansive young adults ages 18-23.
Before joining Step Up, Zoe attended Northwestern University and received a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics. Passionate about expanding opportunities for girls and women in STEM, she led STEM after-school programs at elementary schools for girls as an undergraduate.
Also passionate about environmental studies, Zoe plans to pursue a graduate degree in environmental fluid dynamics and apply it to examining the impacts of climate change on global communities. In her free time, Zoe enjoys reading, running, and anything outdoors.

What has your mentor taught you?
As a girl growing up with a love for STEM, I was incredibly lucky to have amazing women math and science teachers, especially in high school. My pre-calculus and later multi-variable calculus teacher, Ms. Koles, was one of my biggest role models. She really embodied the idea that you can be a smart and powerful woman without compromising your own personality and identity which is something that has really stuck with me.
Which Step Up value resonates with you the most?
Intentional innovation. I think it is so important build programming with specific goals and input from the people you serve in order to really make a difference.
What do you enjoy most about working at Step Up?
The people I get to work with! Everybody at Step Up is aligned toward the same goal, but offer many different experiences.
