Step Up is coming to the Bay Area and Houston!
We will be expanding our programming to the Bay Area and Houston in the fall of 2024! If you have any school or community-based-organization contacts who would be interested in learning more or supporting Step Up in either city, please email Maya at maya@suwn.org.
Recap: Explore Pathways with Michael Stars in Los Angeles
On November 7, Michael Stars hosted an Explore Pathways field trip to their factory for Step Up teens at Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School in Los Angeles. The Step Up teens were able to experience inside of a real clothing manufacturing company. Seamstresses went over textile design and how to cut and create patterns for clothes. The clothes were then taken and showcased on models to be photographed and presented. Michael Stars employees came to mentor Step Up teens and share how they started their careers in the fashion industry. Many shared the different career steps that it took to get to where they are now, which opened the eyes of Step Up teens, who may not have thought they would be able to work in fashion or a creative industry. The teens also participated in their very own photoshoot at the Michael Stars headquarters.
Inspiration Awards Takes Chicago
For the first time since 2019, we gathered together in Chicago to raise impactful funds for our mentorship programs. Inspiration Awards garnered more than 200 guests and raised an all-time Inspiration Awards high of $750,000… and counting. The $750,000 raised includes our fundraising efforts for Inspiration Awards across both Chicago and Los Angeles.
